IC 1318

IC 1318, commonly known as the Butterfly Nebula, is a large diffuse emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus, located roughly 4,000-5,000 light-years from Earth. Its distinctive shape is produced by vast clouds of glowing ionized gas divided by lanes of dark interstellar dust, creating the appearance of a butterfly with outstretched wings. IC 1318 is not a single compact nebula but a large, multi-part emission nebula associated with the broader Sadr region and Cygnus star-forming complex.
